How can I recognise periodontitis?
Typical signs are bleeding gums, red or swollen gums and sometimes bad breath. We make a reliable diagnosis with a periodontal status measurement at your check-up appointment.
Can periodontitis be cured?
Consistent periodontitis therapy can stop the inflammation and stabilise the tooth-supporting structures, though bone that has already been lost does not fully grow back on its own. Early treatment is therefore important.
Does periodontitis lead to tooth loss?
If left untreated, advanced periodontitis can indeed lead to the loss of teeth, as it attacks the tooth-supporting structures. With timely treatment, this can often be prevented or significantly slowed down.

Periodontal treatment aims to eliminate bacteria and other triggers of the disease. To do this, we first thoroughly clean the gum pockets and root surfaces under local anesthesia. Special instruments, such as ultrasonic devices, remove stubborn deposits deep below the gumline and smooth the root surfaces. Tissue-sparing, minimally invasive techniques also allow us to clean deeper gum pockets.

Aftercare

So that no new disease develops after the treatment is complete, our periodontitis patients take part in a prevention program. It includes regular dental check-ups as well as professional teeth cleaning by our trained practice team.
